THE IDEAL MINDSET OF TODAY’S MODERN MARKETER

THE IDEAL MINDSET OF TODAY’S MODERN MARKETER

Do you remember the old days of applying for a job required the necessary skill set along with a few years of experience and the requisite educational qualifications that best suits the job profile that you are applying for? The process was simpler then, with the skillsets which made sense for an average HR person and which of those were not mentioned to the people applying for the jobs.

With the evolving marketing sphere, digital influencers and technologies are evolving the way they have started looking at the skillset. The new normal looks into the new set of skills which are referred to as ‘soft skills’ and that’s what the term mindset is referred to as. This set of skills are the most valued in the digital marketing professionals. According to Econsultancy’s report, 94% of the marketers agreed that soft skills are as important as technical skills for a career in the field of marketing. What are these skills that are in high demand and what do employers value in the modern marketer?

The fact remains that hard and soft skills always go hand in hand with each other in order to create a set of qualifications the modern marketer needs. Over the years, what’s seen is that there was a stronger pull towards the technical skills when digital marketing grew. Technical skills included knowing as to how to work across social media platforms along with knowing the effective SEO tactics and understanding the world of PPC too. As the content started to become the king and became more important in the field of digital marketing, hard skills became less important. The new string of skills starts to emerge and dominate the digital marketer’s talent, which includes:

Creativity: The time has gone when digital marketers used to only stick to technology. Digital marketers in recent times need to be more creative towards and contribute towards bringing new ideas and to know how to effectively manage and interpret situations and manage the new challenges in modern marketing.

Resourcefulness: Analytic minds are to function better when they are more creative. Being resourceful adds to the creative mindset allowing people to think forward and work towards their approach to access and use the right source of data, delivering a more informed and insightful analysis.

Adaptability: Today’s marketing specialists can’t predict what can happen next with the recent technological changes taking place, so what’s necessary is being able to adapt to the changing demands and being able to deliver in accordance with the needs. Adapting changes is for both marketing strategies and marketing tactics.

Collaboration: In order to yield better results the ideal mindset of the marketer must understand the need of working as a team and collaborate. Several departments work together to gain revenue, market share, and the traffic that helps you generate leads. Whether it be sales or R&D or it is advertising or executives all involves teamwork to bring about shared insights which is definitely the new name of the game.

Leadership: It’s important for thought leaders to exist within an organization in order to effectively manage the team and inspire teams to collaborate together to bring new insights and share their experiences and to build a hunger for innovation.

A New Complexity

The new mindset is building curiosity, thus leading to research across the industries. According to a study by Econsultancy its found that marketers acknowledge the complexity of their roles. They acknowledge the value of soft skills and how important it is to provide the right mix to work with traditional expertise as well. The new marketer appreciates the way they combine the best of both the worlds balancing hard skills with that of soft skills.

Even according to research done by Adobe, it focuses that 40% of the marketers wanted to reinvent themselves while only 14% of them knew how they could accomplish their goal. The solution to this new complexity is to develop their soft skills and implement them to achieve their goal.

Digital marketing companies and marketers have evolved and have changed the way they look at things. With new technological advancements, we have indeed found the new modern marketer.
